Basak Altan grew up in Izmir, Turkey, where she attended the American Collegiate Institute. After graduating from Syracuse University School of Industrial Design in 1997, she spent the next four years creating brand-identity solutions for clients’ corporate office interiors and exhibition booths.

Ms. Altan has been designing for an ever wider range of clients and project types, including home accessories, gift items, jewelry and furniture, for
Pottery Barn, RedEnvelope, Nautica, Liz Claiborne, as well as private commissions.

As a design director, she has led her design team, and pulled together off-shore vendors, merchants, and buyers to consistently bring high-quality product lines to market on time and on budget.

Her aesthetic sense is simple, and modern, yet warm and evocative. Social justice and ecological sustainability remain an integral part of her design process, and she has volunteered many days sharing her design abilities to help individuals and communities in need.
